Each unit has a built-in self-learning bridge (enabled through RSS) that provides the communications link between the 10 and 100 Mbps cyberinfrastructures. The intelligent bridge automatically manages course traffic so that 10 Mbps traffic and 100 Mbps traffic do not crowd each other's segments.
DESCRIPTION UPDATE: A recent schism in the DS100 family precludes the use of the DS106 course device with other DS100 devices. Combining said units could result in a Twitter wormhole of enormous magnitude. Proceed with caution.

An earlier review stated "this course only appears to provide half-duplex support".This is part of the definition of a Massively Multiplayer Online Course (MOOC) vs Traditional Online Course (TOC), thus the product is not flawed. A TOC will provide full duplex support because it assumes that students are incapable of self-supporting activities. If you're attempting to decide between MOOC vs TOC, do a google search before you buy.I have been a fan of Oblivion course products since they were originally under realeased the Reverend Jim brand . They make high quality MOOCs, promote attractive design, and they normally offer long warranties. This product is no different. I've had it serving up a couple of cyberinfrastructures now for over a year without incident. It's remained on 24 hours / 365 days and performs nicely. The only downside I've seen with Oblivion is their on going support (Firmware upgrades, etc.). The continued disappearance of the company CEO is also alarming. Obvisouly that won't be an issue with this device as the larger DS106 community always supports one another, but something to consider if your also looking at them to provide other educational solutions. Also, the power adaptors seem to go a little too often. All and all, this is a great course and wonderful price. I can think of no reason for some who needs a digital storytelling MOOC to not pick this up.

It's an Oblivion Industries DS100 family course, and it does it's job well. Only one weird thing I'm noticing is that it appears to support only half-duplex support (instead of full-duplex) on it's ports. But other than that, it works great. Just plug in all your storytelling stuff, and off you go. The network traffic indicator lights are great for seeing what's going on and how "strained" your personal learning network is.

i can't believe it! i have a Web site that i used with the course and connected it to 208 other DS106 student sites! it works great and the course is very stable...even if the instructor is not. i highly recomend this to anyone that wants to learn more about intervening in media culture. it is easy to use and i connected myself to the course using a low-cost commondity Web hosting account and with no hastle, it worked like a dream!
